What We Believe - What We Believe

1. About the Bible

We believe and teach that the Holy Bible was written by men supernaturally inspired. It is without error. It will remain to the end of the age, the only complete and final revelation of the will of God to man. II Tim 3:16-17II Pet. 1:19-21Eph 6:17Rom. 15:4Psa. 119:160Psa 19:7-11

2. About God

We believe and teach that there is one, and only one, living and true God. He is the maker and supreme ruler of heaven and earth. He is worthy of all possible honor, confidence and love. We believe and teach that in the unity of the Godhead, there are three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jer. 10:10I John 5:7Gen. 1:1 Ex. 15:11John 10:30Eph. 4:6Matt 28:19

3. About the Holy Spirit

We believe and teach that the Holy Spirit is a divine person, equal with God the Father and God the Son. He was active in creation. He convicts of sin, of judgment and of righteousness. He bears witness to the Truth of the Gospel in preaching and testimony. He is the agent in the New Birth; He seals, empowers, guides, teaches, witnesses, sanctifies and helps the believer.John 14:16-17&26Acts 1:8Eph. 1:13-14Rom. 8:16 John 16:7-11Rom. 8:26-27

4. About the Devil (Satan)

We believe and teach that Satan was once holy, and enjoyed heavenly honors; but through pride and ambition to be as the Almighty, fell and drew after him a host of angels. He is now the prince of the power of the air, and the unholy god of this world. He is the great tempter and accuser of the saints and the enemy of God. He is the author of all false religions and all the powers of darkness. He is the lord of the Antichrist and destined however to final defeat at the hands of God's Son, and to the judgment of an eternal justice in hell, a place prepared for him and his angels.Isa. 14:12-15 Ezek. 28:14-17I John 3:8Rev. 12:7-9I Pet. 5:8Matt 25:41

5. About Creation

We believe and teach in the Genesis account of creation, and that it is to be accepted literally, and not allegorically of figuratively. Man's creation was not a matter of evolution or evolutionary change of species, or development through unknown periods of time from lower to higher forms. All animal and vegetable life was made directly, and God's established law was, they should bring forth only "after their kind".Gen. 1 & 2John 1:3 Rev. 10:6Acts 4:24Col. 1:16-17Jer. 10:12

6. About the Fall of Man

We believe and teach that man was created in innocence under the law of his Maker, but by his own decision, fell from his sinless and happy state. The consequence of this first sin is that all human beings are now sinners.Gen 3:6, 24 Rom. 1:18-20Rom. 3:10-19, 23Rom. 5:8-12,19

7. About Salvation

We believe and teach that in order to be saved, sinners must be born again. The New Birth is a new creation in Christ Jesus and takes place at the moment of accepting Jesus Christ as Savior. We believe in God's electing grace. The blessings of salvation are made free to all by the gospel and it is the immediate duty of all to accept them by obedient faith. Nothing prevents the salvation of the greatest sinner on earth except for that person’s rejection of the gospel. John 3:3 Col. 2:13Acts 16:30-33II Pet. 1:4II Cor. 5:19Rev. 22:17I Tim 1:15John 6:37Matt. 11:28Acts 2:38John 3:18

8. About Eternal Security

Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in the salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this security. John 8:31-32Psa. 121:3I John 2:19Matt. 13:19-21I Pet. 1:5 Rom. 8:35-39

9. About Jesus Christ

We believe and teach that Jesus Christ was born of the Holy Spirit in a miraculous manner; born of Mary, a virgin, as no other man was ever born or can be born of woman, and that He is both the Son of God, and God, the Son.

We believe and teach that Jesus Christ died and rose bodily "the third day according to the scriptures", that He ascended "to the right hand of the throne of God"; that He alone is our "merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God."

We believe and teach that the salvation of sinners is totally of grace through the Son of God, Jesus Christ.Gen. 3:15Luke 1:35Isa. 7:14 I John 5:20Matt. 1:18-25John 1:14Matt. 1:22, 23Isaiah 9:6 John 1:1-5John 14:10-30Heb. 4:14, 15 Rom. 1:3,41 Cor. 15:3,4Acts 1:9-11Titus 2:13Eph. 2:8John 3:16 II Cor. 5:21Phil. 2:7-8Isa. 53:4-7John 2:2

10. About the Return of Jesus Christ

We believe and teach the imminent, personal, bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ to this earth. We believe that His coming will be pre-millennial; that is, He will return and will establish a righteous Kingdom on the earth over which He will reign for a thousand years.I Thes. 4:16Acts 1:9; 2:29-31Matt. 24:27 Rev. 20:1-6Heb. 9:28; 12:2

Music Minister - Chris Taguinod - Meet our Staff

Chris C. Taguinod came from the Philippines in January of 1993. He came to know Christ after graduating from high school in 1978. While looking for a school to pursue a career, God impressed in his heart His call to the ministry. That same year, Chris responded to God’s call and attended International Baptist Theological College, Manila, Philippines and graduated in 1982. After graduating from College, he worked as full time Music Director of the main church, the International Baptist Church, Manila Philippines and at the same time a Faculty member of the school he graduated from. From 1984 to 1993, he served as a missionary sent by International Baptist Missionary Fellowship, Decatur, Georgia to promote the school and it’s ministry in different churches in the U.S.

In January of 1993, the Lord opened the door for him and he was offered a position as part-time music director at California Heights Baptist church in Long Beach, CA. After seeking God’s will and direction, he accepted the position. That same month his family migrated to the U.S.

In August of 2001, the Lord opened another door of opportunity when Victory Baptist Church offered him a full-time position as Music Minister. For years he prayed to God that He would lead him to a church where he could serve God on a full-time basis and Victory Baptist Church was an answer to that prayer.

He is married to Noemi Garcia and God blessed them with 3 children. Andrea Leigh, 16, Peter Justin 14, and the newest addition, Kirsten Naomi, 3 years old.

School Principal - Valerie Birge - Meet our Staff

Valerie Birge, MA

Mrs. Birge is Pastor Tony’s wife. They have three boys, Stephen (19), Michael, and Timothy (15). Mrs. Birge is the principal of Victory Christian School , and also coordinates the ROSE Ladies Ministry at Victory. ROSE is an acronym for Renewing Our Spiritual Essence.

The daughter of Stan and Wilda Metts, Valerie was a Missionary Kid when her parents were Missionaries to Ethiopia, Africa. When a communistic government took over, her family was required to leave the country. The Metts family came to California and lived in West Covina for 6 months, then moved to Connecticut to plant churches in New England. After graduating from high school, Valerie went to Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO, where she completed the missions program and graduated in 1988. While at BBC she went on a Missions Trip to the Philippines. On this trip, she met Pastor Tony and one year later they were married. After graduating, they were seeking a church to serve an Internship. Dr. Knutson called to ask if they would come to CA to Victory while Tony was on a cabinet installation job and out of contact. Dr. K said they had a Missionary coming through Springfield the next day with a ½ empty truck and if she could get packed, it would save a lot of money in shipping. She immediately began packing and even drained the water-bed by the time Tony got home. She thought the worst that could happen would be for Tony to say they weren’t going and she would have to unpack. They moved to CA in June of 1990. She took a position as the 4th grade teacher, and Tony became a teacher/maintenance man/youth pastor/Missions Intern. Stephen was 2 ½ when they came. They decided to have another child before going on deputation as missionaries to Romania. At 5 months she found out that the baby was actually two babies! They were born 3 months premature and had many complications which needed medical attention. They were in NICU for 75 days. Michael had a grade 4 brain bleed at 3 weeks and the Dr.’s said normally they would suggest unplugging life support, but since Michael was doing so well, they had decided to let him continue. They said normally a grade 4 bleed causes severe handicaps and Michael would be in a wheelchair his whole life. Today, Mike is doing great! He has partial paralysis on his left side, but he runs and plays and is a huge blessing!

In 1998, Pastor Tony accepted the pastorate of Victory Baptist Church. When the position of Principal of Victory Christian School came open in 2001, Mrs. Birge accepted the job, and enrolled in California Baptist University for their Masters Degree in Administration of a Faith Based School. She completed the program in the spring of 2005.

Her favorite verse is Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.

Her favorite Chapter is Ps. 70. No matter what circumstances life brings, true peace comes from knowing that God loves you and your loved ones more than you ever could, and trusting His Word that he is working all things together for our good, and according to His perfect plan. We may not know until eternity the plan that He has, but trusting that He is a good God, and is in total control at all times brings comfort, peace and joy to life.

In October of 1998, Dr. Knutson retired and the church asked Tony Birge to become their pastor.

Our Beliefs - Who We Are

Our church is a community of believers with Jesus Christ as its head. We seek to love, respect and care for one another as a demonstration of our love for God.

Our outreach is to those who have no church home. Many in our area are disillusioned with religion. They have felt the sting of legalism with its impossible demands. Some have seen hypocrisy. Others have had no religious background and therefore see Christianity as irrelevant. The missing element has been healthy relationships with mature believers in Jesus.

Who is good?Romans 3:10 (KJV) “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.”Who has sinned?Romans 3:23 (KJV) “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”Where does sin come from?Romans 5:12 (KJV) “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.”What is God’s price on sin?Romans 6:23 (KJV) “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”What is our way out or what can we do?Romans 5:8 (KJV) “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”Romans 10:13 (KJV) “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”Take God at His word and claim His promise for your salvation.Romans 10:9-11 (KJV) “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.”Pray to God; confess that you are a sinner, ask God to forgive you of all your sins and save you, receive Christ as your personal Savior and Lord of your life. How can we know that we have eternal life?1 John 5:13 (KJV) “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”
